Role Purpose:
To contribute specialist health, safety, and environmental (HSE) knowledge within the assigned regional area, ensuring HSE risk is minimised for LR colleagues, HSE compliance is maintained, and HSE projects are manage providing commercially focussed support and/or service delivery to internal and/or external clients.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Accountable for monitoring HSE developments in the industry (for example client HSE practices/programmes, IACS requirements and other industry bodies) and those of competitors, playing an active role in recommending areas for future development to minimise colleague and LR risk and influence the long-term HSE strategy.
2. Lead on implementation of HSE changes and developments cross stakeholder groups to meet future business/commercial demands to improve Lloyd’s Register’s competitive position through clear, visible and felt leadership.
3. Responsible for managing HSE projects and ensure they are following quality system requirements, cost structures and budgetary/contractual requirements.
4. Ensure consistency and strategic alignment within, and across, the HSE function, and contribute to the continual improvement of HSE culture, risk mitigation and management system.
5. Pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
6. Ensure collaboration within HSE Business Partner community across different regions to ensure consistent of implementation/approach to HSE standards and address local regulatory requirements, drive safety culture across diverse regions.
7. Accountable for compliance with HSE regulatory and legislative requirements, and maintaining the LR HSE management system, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001.
8. Responsible for reporting and recording events, investigation appropriately, actions from investigations are addressed on time, and learning from report findings, effectively communicated to implement preventive measures.
9. Accountable for the closure of all HSE related corrective actions (such as audit findings) helping colleagues and senior managers to address findings on time.
10. Create an environment for open and proactive dialogue regarding HSE performance and concerns, supporting a “Proactive” and/or “Independent” HSE culture.
11. Mentor/coach colleagues to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application.
12. Accountable for developing, coaching and lead the team to cultivate a high-performance culture aligned with LR values and strategy. This includes recruitment, performance management, training / development, driving engagement and encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing across the team
13. Provide support to Internal Audit with HSE assurance activities, including knowledge transfer and root cause analysis of findings, ensuring assurance activities are focused on critical HSE risks (for example high-risk operations).
14. Assist with the implementation of the Crisis Management Plan, recommending response team activation and supporting crisis management activities.
15. Accountable for monitoring health and safety performance and ensure clear messaging regarding best and good practice/performance and creating a compelling message for change where performance falls below expectation.
16. Create an environment where a high performing team exists; clear, open, fair, and listening communication style is adopted. Ensure above expectations performance is recognised and effective performance management for underperformance. Champion inclusivity and diversity in day-to-day activities/interactions, new hires etc.
17. Responsible for mentoring/coaching HSE/EMS Co-ordinators to ensure LR office compliance (induction, fire safety, emergency preparedness, environmental aspects/emissions).
Job Requirement:
1. Graduate in a science, engineering or related discipline with sufficient practical ‘hands-on’ experience of lead
safety, occupational health and environment in large multinationals to command respect from the business leadership teams.
2. Significant experience in HSE management actively involved in a high-risk industry.
3. Proven track record in high performing teams, role modelling leadership behaviours and implementing
sound people management practices to establish a high performance and client focused organization.
4. A Certified Safety Professional, holding membership of a relevant professional body such as the American Society of Safety Engineers or the American Industrial Hygiene Association.
5. Able to work with ambiguity across diverse and ever-changing functions, operating effectively within matrix reporting lines to support the achievement of key performance indicators and goals.
6. Ability to coach and mentor team members and others to achieve personal and team goals.
7. Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation both internally and externally. Excellent interpersonal skills and proven communication skills in a multi-cultural environment.
8. Proficiency in the English Language commensurate with the work.
9. Proven track record in high performing teams, role modelling leadership behaviours and implementing
sound people management practices to establish a high performance and client focused organization.
10. Ability to adapt to changing business environments and drive continuous improvement.
